ABOUT
OUR PROJECT
This website was created during an After School Matters (ASM) (www.afterschoolmatters.org) Techno Biz apprenticeship program at Carver Military Academy (http://www.carvermilitary.org/) in Chicago, IL. Thanks to ASM
for funding this technology apprenticeship. Appreciation is also
extended to Carver Military Academy, our Techno
Biz instructors (Aina Holmes of www.ecombiz.net and
Eric J. Williams), John Ball our ASM Specialist, and Lillian
Grymes, our Carver ASM liaison.
Techno Biz
is a hands-on technical training program where youth explore
entrepreneurship while learning a specific technical skill (web design)
and engaging in community service (creating a website, logo or
animation for an existing small business).
During
the fall of 2007 and spring of 2008 we learned how to create web pages,
unique graphics and animation. We spent time thinking about our own
personal entrepreneurial goals while learning aspects of a web design
business. Our final products were two distinctive websites. Both
projects will also be displayed at http://www.ecombiz.net/training
We have also taken the extra step of securing our own domain www.20initials.com so that we can directly share our project with the world. We will maintain the site at this domain for at least a year. 20 Initials
expresses some of our interests as teens (movies, books, fashions,
video games, hobbies, etc). This site displays unique graphics and
animations and original poetry created during our two sessions. The
overall website was designed during the fall, along with most of the
graphics. The spring session allowed us to create animations while
enhancing our site design.
In addition
to this site, we created a website as part of our community service.
The site www.beraecon.com
is for our business client, the Business and Economic
Revitalization Association (BERA). BERA
is a non-profit that provides services to businesses on the South Side
of Chicago.
